Easter TV Picks: 14-20 April 2014 (Fargo, Intelligence, Mad Men, Only Connect, Twin Towns, etc.)


Below are my picks of the week's most notable shows, premiering/returning to UK screens this Easter week...

MONDAY 14th
Restaurant Wars: The Battle for Manchester (BBC2, 8pm) New documentary series following chefs Simon Rogan and Aiden Byrne as they try to open new restaurants close to each other in Manchester. (1/3)
The Wonder of Bees with Martha Kearney (BBC4, 8pm) Factual series about the science, art and culture of bees. (1/4)
Only Connect (BBC4, 8.30pm) Series 9 of the mental gameshow. Hosted by Victoria Coren. (1/13)
Can Criminals Say Sorry? (BBC3, 9pm) Documentary about the effectiveness of restorative justice, where criminals have a chance to communicate with their victims and apologise. Presented by Brooke Kinsella.

TUESDAY 15th
The Big Allotment Challenge (BBC2, 8pm) New gardening competition where green-fingered contestants must produce fruit, veg, flowers, jams, chutney, pickles and jellies. Hosted by Fern Britton. (1/6)
Embarrassing Bodies: Live From the Clinic (Channel 4, 8pm) Series 4 of the show where the doctors help members of the public with their embarrassing bodily issues live. (1/8)
Watermen: A Dirty Business (BBC2, 9pm) New documentary series about the staff of a water company in the north-west of England. (1/6)
Twin Towns (Sky1, 9pm) New series where families from the UK and US swap lives. (1/10)
Later Live with Jools Holland (BBC2, 10pm) Series 44 of the live music show. Featuring Elbow, Engelbert Humperdink, Neneh Cherry, Eagulls, Agnes Obel and more. (1/7)

WEDNESDAY 16th
How To Get A Council House (Channel 4, 9pm) Series 2 of the show looking at the impact of reform on residents of a London borough. (1/3)
The Hunt for the Boston Bombers (Channel 4, 10pm) Documentary retelling the events of last April's Boston Marathon bombings.
Happy Birthday BBC Two (BBC2, 10pm) Re-airing of a 2004 tribute looking at the highs and lows of BBC2, as it approaches its 50th anniversary. (1/4)
Mad Men (Sky Atlantic, 9pm) Season 7 of the US drama set in the 1960s. (1/14)


THURSDAY 17th
Posh Pawn (Channel 4, 8pm) Documentary series about high-end pawnbroking. (1/6)
Cowboy Builders (Channel 5, 8pm) New series tackling dodgy builders. Hosted by Dominic Littlewood & Melinda Messenger. (1/6)
Parking Mad (BBC1, 9pm) New documentary series about people involved in car-parking issues, from wardens and bailiffs to motorists and pedestrians. (1/4)
Protecting Our Parents (BBC2, 9pm) New documentary series following a team of people in Birmingham looking after older adults. (1/3)
Harold Shipman (Channel 5, 9pm) Dramatised documentary about the crimes of serial killer Harold Shipman, who killed an estimated 250 while working as a doctor. (1/2)
The Walton Sextuplets at 30 (ITV, 9pm) Documentary about the world's oldest surviving all-female sextuplets, the Waltons from Wallasey on the Wirral.
Intelligence (Sky1, 9pm) Season 1 of the US sci-fi action about an ex-Navy SEAL with a high-tech chip implanted in his brain that enabled him to see the information superhighway. Starring Josh Holloway.


GOOD FRIDAY
BBC Young Musician of the Year 2014 (BBC4, 7.30pm) New series of highlights from the final of the strings section of the classical music competition. (1/8)

SATURDAY 19th
Nothing. Go eat an Easter egg early, without telling anyone.

EASTER SUNDAY
Fargo (Channel 4, 9pm) TV adaptation of the Oscar-winning movie. Starring Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, Bob Odenkirk & Kate Walsh. (1/10)
