Having secured 18 Emmy nominations, it was almost unthinkable FX wouldn't commission a second season of their hit crime drama FARGO. Unusually for U.S television, it will concern a completely different story, with new characters, in a different time period.

Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking and we look forward to the next instalment."What do you make of this news? I'm overjoyed Fargo will be back, but let's hope Noah Hawley finds a storyline and characters of equal interest. It doesn't sound like there'll be much crossover with the first season, beyond the general location dictated by the title. And that does seem a shame, as the audience now have an attachment with the characters who survived the first 10-episode run, but maybe there are plans for some winks to the audience. There's a popular theory Keith Carradine's cop-turned-diner-owner could be the focus, for a 1970s-set flashback to the events of Sioux Falls his character mentioned.
Update 22/07/14: those rumours have proved correct, as FX today announced season 2 will follow Carradine's character, Lou Solverson, back when he was a 33-year-old cop in 1979.
