FX made a pilot based on the comic-book
POWERS starring Jason Patric, but it wasn't ordered to series. But now Sony Pictures Television is giving an adaptation a go, with a series heading to the Playstation Network. The comic is about two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who solve crimes perpetrated by people with super-abilities. They're sort of the
Men In Black in a superhero context.
Sony have just released casting details for their crack at this new project. Sharlto Copley (
District 9) is playing Christian Walker, with Susan Heyward (
The Following) as his screen partner Deena Pilgrim. As you can see, both aren't exactly dead ringers for the source material.
They'll be joined by Eddie Izzard (
Hannibal) as a villain called Wolfe who was once Christian's mentor, and Michelle Forbes (
The Killing) as "Retro Girl".
Completing this casting news is Noah Taylor (
Game of Thrones) as a criminal called Johnny Royalle with the ability to teleport, and Olesya Rulin (
High School Musical) as a teenage 'power' called Calista.
Filming should on the show should begin fairly soon, with
Powers set to be released as an online exclusive for Playstation Network members. I own a PS3 but can't say it's even occurred to me to use PSN to watch a TV show, and I've had that console years. I wonder if Sony will encounter serious problems once
Powers launches, merely educating people to use their Playstations in this way.
