Below are my picks of the most notable shows, returning/premiering on UK screens this week...

MONDAY 30th
The World's Best Diet (Channel 4, 9pm) Documentary looking at various diets from around the world, and how people's eating habits have changed since the 1960s. Presented by Jimmy Doherty & Kate Quilton.

TUESDAY 1st
Nothing. Why not visit a local animal sanctuary?

WEDNESDAY 2nd
The Betrayers (ITV, 9pm) Documentary about people who have been betrayed and duped by loved-ones who were swindlers. Narrated by Reece Shearsmith.
The White Widow: Searching for Samantha (BBC1, 10.35pm) Documentary on Samantha Lewthwaite, one of the world's most wanted terrorists; a British bomber radicalised by the Al-Shabaab militant group.

THURSDAY 3rd
The Honourable Woman (BBC2, 9pm) New drama about a woman who witnessed the assassination of her Zionist arms dealer father, who finds herself as the centre of MI6 scrutiny many years later. Starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lubna Azabal, Eve Best, Andrew Buchan, Lindsay Duncan, Tobias Menzies & Igal Naor. (1/8)
Inside Asprey: Luxury by Royal Appointment (ITV, 9pm) New series going behind-the-scenes of the London designer, which famously supplies jewellery to the royal family.
The Secret Life of Students (Channel 4, 10pm) Documentary following 12 students on their first year at Leicester University. (1/4)


FRIDAY 4th
James Corden Does Deal or No Deal (Channel 4, 8pm) Celebrity special of the gameshow.
The Machine Gun & Skye's Band of Brothers (BBC2, 9.30pm) History documentary about the development of the Maxim machine gun, which could fire 666 rounds a minute, and changed the course of the First World War. Presented by Neil Oliver.

SATURDAY 5th
Tipping Point: Lucky Stars (ITV, 7.30pm) Series 2 of the gameshow, with celebrity contestants Carol Vorderman, Joe Swash & Mark Charnock. Hosted by Ben Shephard. (1/8)

SUNDAY 6th
Common (BBC1, 9pm) Single drama about a teenage boy who gives a lift to some friends, unaware they're actually planning to beat-up a local lout; during which an innocent woman is fatally stabbed and the teenager charged with murder alongside his friends. Starring Nico Mirallegro, Susan Lynch, Daniel Mays, Jodhi May, Robert Pugh, Michelle Fairley, Philip Hill Pearson, Andrew Ellis & Jack McMullen.
