HEROES: BBC and NBC in synch?

Thursday, 12 June 2008
Jana Bennett, director of BBC Vision, speaking at the Banff Television Festival:

"People want to participate globally -- and, in part, that's why this autumn, when NBC launches Heroes series three in the States, it will be aired simultaneously by the BBC in the UK."

Simultaneous transatlantic transmissions? Can it be really be true? If so... wow, I hope this starts a trend. If UK broadcasters want to curb illegal downloading in Britain, I've always said this is how to do it. This makes Sky's three-day delay for Lost look like an eternity.

Bennett continues:

"Imagine now the world communities and conversations that would congregate around programmes like Planet Earth, Wild China or Amazon -- if they were available to that global audience at the same time."

Hear, hear. Even illegal downloaders are usually a day late to US conversations about the latest revelation in Lost and jaw-dropping shock in 24. Well done, the Beeb.

The third season of Heroes returns to NBC (and the BBC) on 22 September, meaning a gap of just a few months between season 2 and 3 for BBC viewers.
