The two-part fourth series of BBC1's LUTHER, intended to end the television show (although rumours of a prequel movie persist), has started filming in London. Idris Elba tweeted the above photo as proof, and it's been revealed that guest stars include Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones), Darren Boyd (Fortitude), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), John Heffernan (Ripper Street) and Patrick Malahide (The Paradise). Michael Smiley and Dermot Crowley will be returning as Benny Silver and DSU Martin Schenk, but Ruth Wilson's name isn't on the list... so one assumes recurring serial killer Alice Morgan won't be returning, unless that's just canny misdirection.
A press released reveals the plot will see DCI John Luther "pitted against his most chilling adversary yet, haunted by the ghosts of his past and hell-bent on retribution... drawn into a terrifyingly complex case that pushes him closer to the edge than he's ever been."
Luther should return to our screens later this year, in episodes written by creator Neil Cross and directed by Sam Miller (Fortitude). And if this is definitely the end, maybe Fox's U.S remake will prove a decent replacement (if it goes to series)? Uh, maybe? Let's be optimistic.
