I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead franchise, but I've had my doubts about transplanting the idea to television. Bruce Campbell's much older now, and can such a simple idea sustain across multiple episodes? The jury's out on the latter, but this trailer suggests we're going to be highly entertained watching them try. There are some hilarious jokes and nods to Campbell's age, while returning director Sam Raimi has already put together some giddily kinetic action sequences. Maybe it'll peter out after a few episodes, but let's hope not, because this put a big childish smile on my face. "Yo granny -- let's go!"
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD - Season 1 (AMC)
The strange thing about this spin-off is how its concept is superior to the mother show: set it in a big city, allowing us to see the origin of the zombie outbreak, focusing on a fractured family unit. And yet, it's ultimately just a cash-grab because AMC want Walking Dead content on for as long as possible throughout the year. I'm open-minded, but I already find the original show extremely hit-and-miss during its own wavering seasons.
STAR WARS EPISODE VII - THE FORCE AWAKENS
Not a trailer, as such, but arguably something more reassuring from JJ Abrams' team at San Diego Comic-Con. B-roll footage of them making the new Star Wars movie, which goes out of its way to ensure fans it's being made using a healthy proportion of practical effects and makeup. Plus there are clear shots of Harrison Ford in the Millennium Falcon, Mark Hamill being interviewed, Anthony Daniels perusing the amazing sets, Peter Mayhew in the Chewie costume, and Carrie Fisher as Leia. Lots of behind-the-scenes footage, stunts, and luscious concept art; much of it jaw-dropping. Christmas can't come fast enough!
THE WALKING DEAD - Season 6 (AMC)
A four-minute trailer for the upcoming sixth season. You know the drill. Zombies! AAAGH!
Any of those take your fancy? Lots of dead-related content, huh? (As always, I'll update the embeds for better-quality videos if any become available. Let me know if any of the links go dead. Ugh, dead again. Sorry.)
