After yesterday's rumours about McG directing Terminator 4, with Vin Diesel replacing Arnold Schwarzenegger, today we have firm news on the state of this project...
Variety reports that Warner Brothers now have the distribution rights to the project, entitled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. The plan is to "reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-pic span."
Executive producer Moritz Bowman told The Guardian that: "the third film was really the conclusion of what happened in the 'now.' [In the new film] you will find the most-loved characters, but the intention here is to present a fresh new world and have this be the first of a trilogy."
So things are really moving forward now -- with three new films, no less! Production on TS:TFB will begin in 2008, for a summer 2009 release. Terminator 3 writers Mike Ferris and John Brancato have now submitted a completed screenplay, but McG and Vin Diesel's involvement is yet to be confirmed by the studio.
