TRAILER PARK: Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Thursday, 14 February 2008
The adventure continues...

Background: Where have you been? Trapped in a snake-infested underground chamber? Oh, that explains it then! Let me enlighten you then. This is the fourth, long-awaited Indiana Jones movie -- 19 years after the third film (89s The Last Crusade) and an amazing 27 years since the first (80s Raiders Of The Lost Ark)! Harrison Ford returns, along with Raiders' love-interest Kate Allen. Spielberg directs again. George Lucas produces again. Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Jim Broadbent lend their support...

It's now the 1950s... and the intrepid, whip-cracking archaeologist is after a Crystal Skull, battling nasty Russians, led by a leather-clad Blanchett, in a story that's strongly rumoured to involve extra-terrestrials...

Review: Words fail me. The best I can muster is: awesome! Just awesome. Any doubts I had have totally vanished now. Is Harrison Ford too old? No, not if this is any indication! He runs with the same crouched stance (that actually made me grin), and swings through the air on his whip better than ever!

The trailer opens with the worrying vibe that it will just be an overblown tease (clips from the previous films and a release date, yawn...), but then it just explodes to life with thrills, spills, whip-cracks, stunts, baddies, explosions and a few genuinely funny one-liners. Spielberg is behind the camera, and this is undoubtedly the slickest-looking of the Indy films yet. There's not much sense of the storyline or character relationships for now, though... just gorgeous visuals, landscapes, and a sense of fun and movie escapism I haven't felt since since I was a kid. Superb!

Prediction: Summer just got owned. The man in the hat is back!
