In the US: The big news is how "The Dark Knight" narrowly held off Seth Rogen's stoner comedy "Pineapple Express", to keep the #1 spot for another week. Batman has now made $451m in the US and $715m in total, making it the third most successful US movie of all time, behind Titanic and Star Wars. The other new release, drama sequel "Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2", has to make do with #4.

US TOP 10

(1) 1. The Dark Knight $26.1m [review]
(-) 2. Pineapple Express $23.2m
(2) 3. The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor $16.5m
(-) 4. The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2 $10.7m
(3) 5. Step Brothers $9.13m
(4) 6. Mamma Mia! $8.21m
(5) 7. Journey To The Centre Of The Earth $4.87m
(7) 8. Hancock $3.32m
(8) 9. WALL•E $3.14m
(6) 10. Swing Vote $3.13m

In the UK: The third "Mummy" dethrones Batman in the UK, but it's still taken over £34m at the British box-office. Dance drama "Make It Happen" (not yet released in the US) goes in at #5, which isn’t too shabby considering the lack of advertising. Bollywood movies often creep into the bottom of the UK chart, but "Singh Is Kinng" (about a Punjabi villager becoming king of the Australian underworld!) makes a confident debut mid-chart at #6 –- doing more business than Kung Fu Panda and X Files. Speaking of which, X Files drops to #10, having taken a poor £1.1 in just 2 weeks of release. Don't hold your breath for X Files 3, unless it's straight-to-DVD...
