Comedy crime drama Castle, starring geek favourite Nathan Fillion (Firefly), Stana Katic and Molly Quinn, has been ordered to season by ABC. The show is about Nick Castle (Fillion), a murder mystery writer who teams up with the NYPD to catch a copycat killer replicating scenes from his books.

When I first heard about the pilot my expectations weren't high. That was basically because the "copycat killer" aspect hadn't been revealed. At the time, I couldn't fathom why a crime writer would be of any use to real cops. But, having a spate of murders based on his books is a nice little twist. But where can they take it when the killer's inevitably caught?

Anyway, I'm sure Fillion's fans will be glad to see him headlining another TV show. The poor guy's never found a project that's clicked. Firefly was axed by Fox, the film spin-off Serenity underachieved at the box-office, horror-comedy Slither was a turkey, Fox cancelled Drive after a few episodes, nobody saw White Noise 2, etc. Hopefully Castle will reach an audience, and Fillion's run of bad luck will come to an end…

Nathan Fillion may never achieved box office fame but seriously, Firefly was amazing. Serenity as well and his role as Captain Hammer in the web project Dr Horrible was hilarious.

I never saw Firefly, but thought Fillion was very good in Serenity. I liked him in Drive and Slither, too. I only managed 4-minutes of Dr Horrible before turning it off. That'll rile any Whedon fans!

What didn't you like in Dr Horrible?
And you should watch Firefly if you liked Serenity, it was a great show with a lot of potential that got really screwed by Fox in my opinion.

To be honest, I can't give a *proper* critique of Dr Horrible because I only lasted 5-minutes of episode 1. I dunno, nothing grabbed me about it and I'm not a fan of "musical" episodes. I know it's a cheap, internet-only production, but 5-minutes of Doogie Howser talking to camera as your big hook? Ugh.

I kind of like Joss Whedon and appreciate what he does (looking forward to Dollhouse), but the kind of knowing, ironic, cheeky quips that fill Buffy, Angel and Dr Horrible half-irritate me.

I will one day watch Firefly: when there's a lull in new TV and some channel airs a marathon.
