Stepping into the hotlight this week is petite Australian actress ISLA FISHER, 33, best known to Australian and British audiences as flame-haired Shannon in Home & Away from 1994-97. Isla left Australia to pursue a movie career in the US soon after, getting small roles in the likes of Scooby Doo Too and I Heart Huckabees, before she gained wider recognition thanks to a scene-stealing turn in 2005's Wedding Crashers (a role that earned her an MTV Award for "Best Breakthrough Performance".)
That attention didn't open the floodgates to huge fame, sadly, with Isla accepting roles in underperforming movies like Wedding Daze, Hot Rod and Definitely, Maybe. She arguably became more famous as the fiance of Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G, Borat) post-Crashers. But, all that it perhaps about to change, thanks to Confessions Of A Shopaholic (opening today across the UK) -- a rom-com based on a series of best-selling novels about a New York fashion journalist who uses her job to fund an obsessive spending habit. It's a perfect fit for Isla's brand of cute silliness, and hopefully her unequivocal break in America.
