Clearly intending to follow in the Hollywood footsteps of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Gavin & Stacey's James Corden and Matthew Horne are likewise following a successful sitcom with a comedy-horror movie. Lesbian Vampire Killers is the result; the story of two hikers who find themselves trapped a remote village populated by the eponymous bloodsuckers. From the look of this new trailer (above), think Shaun Of The Dead-meets-Hammer Horror....
Sadly, while Shaun was created by people who knew zombie lore inside-out, LVK seems more like a pale attempt to ape Shaun's hit formula -- hence, it all looks a bit dumb, bloodless, slapstick-y and unimaginative. A movie where the title is the most enticing thing about it, but where the content cruelly disappoints. Well, at a guess. Of course, this is just a two-minute trailer, so there's a chance it will be very good in context. I like the idea of Paul McGann as a vampire-slaying vicar, there's a Hammer-style cheesiness to the sets, and the vampires look sexy enough... but, going on the bubblegum pop vibe here, I'm guessing it'll be too predictable and spineless to entice much Shaun-style devotion from horror-hounds. And, am I alone in my total ambivalance towards Horne and Corden as funnymen?
