Two pieces of cool news for British HD fans out there. First, you may be aware that Sky have started rolling out a new EPG. The updated programme guide is HD-quality and will be made available to all Sky customers over the next few weeks. 38,000 boxes updated yesterday. If you already have your new EPG, you may be interested to know that it's possible to add ITV-HD (supposedly a Freesat exclusive channel) to your line-up, by going to the ADD CHANNELS menu and inputting these settings: 11.427H, 2/3, 27500, channel 10510. Et, voila!
Secondly, Virgin Media are apparently going to renew efforts to bring HD to their customers. Currently, subscribers to the Virgin+ HD service can only receive BBC HD and limited HD content on-demand. Now, a Virgin rep claims they are "working on HD, including VOD and channels. Until the deals are done we can't announce [anything], but hope to soon." A lot of Virgin's problems stem from the fact their main competitor, Sky, is the creator behind most of the UK's HD content, and has "locked HD away for a period of time." Really, Virgin need to broker some kind of deal, because it's trailing behind in the HD stakes and I know some people are being tempted over to Sky, who are selling their Sky+HD boxes for a paltry £49.
