BBC iPlayer goes HD
Monday, April 20, 2009 Labels: Technology, TV News
This afternoon the BBC iPlayer has been upgraded, to allow 720P HD quality streaming (just click the top-right corner of the display screen.) Great news! Unfortunately, the difference in quality isn't particularly noticeable, and I'm disappointed that the iPlayer via Virgin Media's on-demand service hasn't become HD. Maybe they have plans to do that, as I'm sure Virgin's cable network could handle 720P streaming traffic from its customers...
The web-based iPlayer's Download Manager has also been replaced by "BBC iPlayer Desktop", an Adobe AIR-powered version of the application, designed to work on any AIR-compatible platform (including Windows PCs, Macs and computers running GNU/Linux.)
