There's no doubt in my mind that Sacha Baron Cohen is one of the funniest, cleverest comedians around right now. Borat was a fantastic piece of work, although I didn't get to see it until its DVD release and therefore found it slightly disappointing because practically every joke had been spoiled by trailers, TV spots, clips and YouTube videos months in advance. So, I'm cautious about getting too sucked into the online marketing for his "sequel", Bruno.
The above red-band trailer certainly looks excellent; funny and incisive work once again. Bruno was the weakest of Cohen's tryptch of characters on Da Ali G Show, but he really seems to have found his feet with him here. Where Borat exposed people's racism (along with others' amusing tolerance for such a "backward foreigner"), Bruno plays the sexuality card. If you don't giggle at Bruno comparing a group of hicks sat round a campfire to the Sex & The City cast, check your pulse. I had feared Bruno would be too focused on the hypocrisies and insanity of the fashion industry (where the character tended to focus in the television series), but the trailer clearly shows a lot of interaction with real people. It worked for Borat.
