Early Word: "Terminator: Salvation"

Wednesday, 20 May 2009

Ouch. I was looking forward to this, too. Expectations now officially lowered. Some of the reactions: "it's got all the heart of a demolition derby" (New York Post), "whoever thought in 2003 that we'd look back on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines as the good old days?" (San Francisco Chronicle), "it's far from awful, but Salvation is close to joyless, something easily predicted when this redundant film was first announced" (Orlando Sentinel).

The general concensus is that Christian Bale's disappointing (and essentially a supporting player), the special-effects are great, the CGI Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo is brief but memorable, Sam Worthington's the best thing about it, the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard are wasted, the storyline is flat, the stakes aren't high enough, and it's all a bit forgettable. Mind you, Total Film gave it a 4-star review.
