The Terminator gets a hangover
In the US: The first big non-sequel hit of the summer is THE HANGOVER, even more remarkable because it has no real stars in the cast, straight in at #1 with a decent $45m... beating Will Ferrel's effects-packed LAND OF THE LOST, which becomes the first flop of the summer, debuting at #3 with an underperforming $18m... while MY LIFE IN RUINS, a comedy starring Nia Vardalos of My Big Fat Greek wedding fame, claws a frankly awful $3m to take #9...
US TOP 10
(-) 1. The Hangover $45m
(1) 2. Up $44.1m
(-) 3. Land Of The Lost $18.8m
(2) 4. Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian $14.6m
(5) 5. Star Trek $8.31m
(3) 6. Terminator Salvation $8.25m

(6) 8. Angels & Demons $6.55m
(-) 9. My Life In Ruins $3.22m
(7) 10. Dance Flick $1.96m
In the UK: Despite its underperformance and negative reviews in the US, TERMINATOR SALVATION somehow grabs Brit interest, storming to #1 with the year's best debut at just shy of $7m... and Dustin Hoffman's rom-com LAST CHANCE HARVEY may have only made £640k to take #6, but that's respectable considering it was released against T4 and had practically no marketing attached. I guess we just love The Hoffman?
