A few updates on the status of Dollhouse as Joss Whedon preps for season 2, with spoilers for anyone watching season 1: writers Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain have left the show to work on Lie To Me, and have been replaced by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters (the creators of Reaper).
Cast-wise, Whedon has confirmed that Alan Tudyk will return as the villainous Alpha later in the season (despite the fact he has a key role in ABC's remake of V), Summer Glau will only join the cast if Whedon finds a perfect character for her to play, and Amy Acker will only return if they can work around her schedule, because the actress is now starring in ABC's Happy Town.
Broadly speaking, Whedon has revealed that season 2 will involve Echo (Eliza Dushku) trying to investigate her body's original personality, Caroline. He also hinted that Echo will display a "weird super power" where she can intentionally access different personalities. So, it feels like Whedon has noted criticism about Echo being a dull cipher and is allowing her to have an identity ol' Topher doesn't know he can't erase.
Dollhouse returns to Fox on 18 September for its second season.
