Sky Arts are In Treatment

Monday, 17 August 2009

Sky Arts isn't a channel I watch very often (cultural philistine, that I am), but now there's a good reason to tune in: they have the UK rights to HBO's Emmy-winning drama In Treatment, and plan to air episodes every weekday at 10pm from October, with an omnibus repeat on Sundays.

The series, adapted from an Israeli TV show, stars Gabriel Byrne as psychoanalyst Paul Weston, with each half-hour episode focusing on his sessions with different patients. Friday's episodes then involve Weston being analyzed by his own shrink Dr. Gina Toll (Dianne Wiest).

John Cassy, Channel Director for Sky Arts:

"I think it will get a real following. It is like a very clever soap. An innovative format and tightly written and compelling characterisation leave you devouring one episode after another. We'll be showing it the way it deserves to be seen –- from the way it's scheduled to the quality of the high definition [simulcast on Sky Arts HD]."
Sophie Turner-Laing, Sky's Managing Director of Entertainment:

"In Treatment has been one of the most talked-about series of the past year. Its uniquely theatrical format makes it a great fit for Sky Arts, and reinforces our commitment to providing our customers, across the platform, with top-quality drama."
