A quick reminder that Five are premiering ABC's Flash Forward this Monday (28 Sep @9pm), just three days after its US broadcast. That's cause for celebration in itself, and expectations are sky-high about the show, which is being billed as "the next Lost". Trouble is, a great many shows have been hyped thus, only to fail dismally...
Will Flash Forward fare any better, with its high-concept premise that everyone on the planet falls unconscious for 2 minutes 17 seconds (resulting in countless catastrophes -- as cars and planes don't drive themselves!), during which most people have a vision of their future six months hence? It's the brainchild of David S. Goyer and Brannon Braga, writers responsible for Batman Begins and episodes of 24. An attractive pedigree, until you realize they individually wrote Blade Trinity and technobbable-heavy Star Trek Voyager, and their previous TV partnership resulted in short-lived sci-fi Threshold.
Are we being sold a turkey here? Will you be tuning in to find out?
