Now that The Wire has wrapped up its five-season run, it's funny to see many of its actors turning up in British TV. Dominic West recently appeared in The Devil's Whore and Breaking The Mould, Clarke Peters did a stint on Holby City (no, really!), and now Idris Elba has landed the lead in a six-part detective drama called Luther. Elba will play the eponymous John Luther, in a series written by Neil Cross (Spooks) that will break with TV tradition by showing the audience who the murderer is before Luther himself finds the culprit. Filming begins in the next few months, for broadcast next year.
