FlashForward lose Guggenheim

Wednesday 21 October 2009
Writer-producer Marc Guggenheimer (Eli Stone), showrunner of FlashForward, has left the sci-fi series. Ratings for the show have slipped in the US since the premiere, but remain relatively strong and ABC have already announced a "back nine" of episodes to ensure a full season airs. The reason for Guggenheim's dismissal are sketchy, but many claim ABC are unhappy with the creative direction of the show. Co-creator David Goyer will now run the series single-handed, as co-creator Brannon Braga is still contracted to Fox's 24 (the reason for Guggenheim's appointment, given Goyer's lack of experience showrunning television.)

Is this good news? Do you think Guggenheim's involvement was the reason FlashForward's post-pilot episodes are disappointing, or is the concept just too flawed for serialized TV? Will Goyer rise to the challenge alone? Will there be more of an emphasis on sci-fi now Guggenheim has left? Will ABC appoint someone to help Goyer soon?
