Doctor Who isn't the only slice of sci-fi the BBC will be offering viewers over the festive period. A new remake of John Wyndham's classic novel The Day Of The Triffids is also a notable jewel in their seasonal lineup...
The two-part sci-fi thriller, written by ER's Patrick Harbinson, will once again see the majority of the planet's population turned blind by a meteor shower (well, a solar storm), to face a chaotic world where ambulant man-eating plants called Triffids begin to takeover. It stars Dougray Scott (as hero Bill Masen, possibly the last sighted man alive), Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley. Quite a cool, eclectic cast.
The Day Of The Triffids will be shown on BBC1 (with a BBC HD simulcast) on 28 and 29 December.
