The buzz is already deafening in fan circles, thanks to the knockout exclusive footage shown at Comic-Con '09 and the uberviolent red-band trailer released recently. So, geeks duly psyched and eager to prebook their tickets, it's time for Matthew Vaughn's superhero movie Kick-Ass to start charming general audiences...
Cue this second trailer (embedded above), which reveals far more about the actual storyline (a teenager's wannabe superhero antics captured on video inspire a spate of real-world caped vigilantism), it shows us Nicolas Cage in his "Batman" costume, introduces Mark Strong as the villain (is he already typecast?), and gives us a more raucous teen-comedy spirit and feel. There's no sign of the eyebrow-raising bloodshed and expletives we know are in store for moviegoers, so it'll be interesting to see what certificate this movie gets in the US. Is it strong enough to get a Kill Bill-style "R"? Here in the UK, I'm predicting a 15.
Also, is it a concern that I find myself more interested in Hit Girl and "Big Daddy" than I do the eponymous hero and his would-be sidekick Red Mist?
