A few titbits about Dexter's fifth season have emerged from the show's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con today (contains a major spoiler for season 4, still unaired in the UK). During the panel, new executive-producer Chip Johannessen (Millennium, 24) revealed details about the character Julia Stiles will be playing, saying:
"[She's] a new type of relationship that [Dexter's] never had before."Johannesen also revealed that season 5 will involve a number of killers instead of the show's usual reliance on one "big bad", elaborating:
"We have very different adversaries for [Dexter] and pressure in ways we've never seen before. We wanted to get away from the single serial killer. We're not doing a serial killer of the week thing. We just have more balls in the air."Johannesen on the fallout with Rita's murder that closed season 4:
"[Dexter's attempt at a normal life] didn't just blow up, he blew it up. It's kind of like your own weaknesses come to bear on you. His son is now possibly in the same condition that he found himself in when he was young. He's trying to pick up the pieces and at the same time he just doesn't want to do this anymore. He's reached out to humanity and it's not gone very well."Dexter will return to Showtime on 26 September.
