Pompeii (BBC2, 9pm) Documentary investigating the infamous Italian city, before its destruction when Mount Vesuvius erupted.
The War You Don't See (ITV1, 10.35pm) Investigation into the media's role and influence on modern-day wars and conflicts. Presented by John Pilger.

THURSDAY 16th
The Royal Variety Performance (BBC1, 8pm) 82nd annual variety show with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in attendance. The Apprentice: Why I Fired Them (BBC1, 10.35pm) Special episode where Lord Sugar reflects on why he fired the unsuccessful candidates from this year's series, before Sunday's final.
