Showtime have released footage from their upcoming psychological thriller series Homeland, about a CIA officer (Claire Danes) who begins to suspect the intelligence that led to a missing US soldier (Damian Lewis) returning home is an Al Qaeda setup. Indeed, the American war hero might actually be connected to an enemy plot to carry out a terrorist act on US soil. Mandy Patinkin co-stars as a veteran CIA Division Chief.

The twelve-part Homeland was written by 24's Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa (24), based on the Israeli TV series Prisoners Of War, created by Gideon Raff. The four-minute trailer/preview is below:

What do you make of that premise? Is it too close to something 24 might have cooked up to get you excited? Does the presence of Damian Lewis have you interested? Could this be the role that redefines Clare Danes, who never quite managed to seize the super-stardom that beckoned after Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet?
