TRAILER: DOCTOR WHO – "The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe"

Saturday, 19 November 2011

Every year Doctor Who teases its Christmas special during Children In Need, and this time we were given a brief sketch with Matt Smith as The Doctor (below) and a 66-second trailer for "The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe" (above).

From the synopsis released a few months ago, you could already sense C.S Lewis influence with this seasonal story (in the same way Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" was all over last year's special), and that's proven to be accurate. The title's the biggest clue to its Narnia flavouring! Oh well, if you're going to take inspiration from something, why not British literary classics?

Anyone excited about next month's Christmas special? I have to say, I'm not so interested this year. Maybe it's because most of the Christmas specials have been disappointing, or maybe it's because Matt Smith's shtick is starting to lose its appeal. He's still great in the role, but I wish he'd find a few different gears.

Incidentally, the accompanying image counts as a very late Jump the Blast entry.
