Trailer: Metástasis – the Latin American remake of BREAKING BAD

Thursday, 3 October 2013

AMC's original Emmy-winning drama Breaking Bad recently ended its five-season run to a record-breaking audience of 10.3 million and universal praise, so now get ready for the Latin American remake!

This time it's Walter Blanco (Diego Trujillo) turning from meek chemistry teacher to notorious drug lord, with help from tearaway Jose (Robert Urbina). His brother-in-law Hank Schrader has been reinvented as Henry Navarro (Julián Arango), and Walt's wife Skyler is now Cielo (Sandra Reyes). The title has also been changed to Metástasis, which is a medical word to describe the spread of cancer.

I love seeing foreign interpretations of TV shows, like the Indian version of 24 that's been made. It's hard to separate yourself from the original and view this trailer on its own terms, but it does look a little cheap. I have no idea if Diego Trujillo is the equal of Bryan Cranston, talent-wise, or if the writers will be following the storyline of the original to the letter. What would be the point of that? One interesting change is that Walt nd Jose will be cooking meth in an old school bus instead of an RV, because motor homes aren't popular in Colombia.
