- 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY has been assembling an interesting cast, but one of its biggest "gets" has decided to quit. Australian actress Judy Davis (due to play the British widow of an infamous terrorist) has decided to leave the show, citing "personal reasons". Naturally, this vagueness was greeted with theories the actress had second thoughts about what might be a controversial role, or suchlike. Regardless, the producers of 24 are looking to recast. - Neil Gaiman's award-winning novel AMERICAN GODS has long been in development at HBO, but now FreemantleMedia North have acquired the project and set about bringing the novel to life. They were the company who sold The Returned format to America and are currently making The Tomorrow People for The CW. Gaiman will executive-produce the show, which tells of a battle between traditional "old gods" of myth and legend, and the "new gods" of modern society (media, celebrity, technology, drugs, etc.) No word yet on who will take the lead role of Shadow, an ex-con who befriends a conman/old god known as Mr Wednesday during a cross-country mission to gather forces for the oncoming battle. Who could you see in the role? [via Comic Book Resources]
- Season 2 of HOUSE OF CARDS hasn't even been released (it's due 14 February, ideal for a Valentine's Day binge for TV-lovers), but Netflix have already announced its return for a third season. [via The Guardian]
- Channel 4 have ordered unaired pilot SCROTAL RECALL to series. With a title like that, how can you not? The comedy concerns a man called Dylan Witter (Cardinal Burns' Dustin Demri-Burns) who must contact everyone he's ever slept with, to inform them he has Chlamydia. In so doing, he uses the time to ruminate on his love life's many downs, making amends with the help of friends Evie and Luke. It sounds like a British version of My Name Is Earl, only with a sexually-transmitted disease. Scotal Recall is written by Tom Edge (The Midnight Beast), who deserves credit for that title alone. Scrotal Recall. It's like Total Recall, but gonad-related. Genius. [via British Comedy Guide]
