Showtime have released a "first look" at the fourth season of their acclaimed drama HOMELAND. This year promises to deliver a big revamp of the show, in the wake of the Nicholas Brody narrative being brought to an end in season 3.
Indeed, at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, showrunner Alex Gansa confirmed that Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will be doing her job in Pakistan after giving birth to Brody's son. Yes, the writers have decided to shunt her child out of the narrative (for now), with a similarly lackadaisical attitude to her bipolar disorder. I still don't quite understand why Carrie remains employed as a CIA operative if she has a mental health issue, but never mind.
What are your thoughts on this short trailer and the plans for season 4? Are you hopeful Homeland can start afresh with a completely new story, or will the loss of Damian Lewis's character be an insurmountable change? And what about the switch to a foreign land? Doesn't that rather go against the title of the show?
Homeland returns 5 October on Showtime, and likely soon after on Channel 4 in the UK.
