Last night, after months of hype and too many trailers to count, NBC finally premiered their new supernatural horror drama CONSTANTINE. It's an adaptation of esteemed comic-book property Hellblazer, created by Alan Moore in the 1980s, about an occultist and magician who battles the forces of evil. While an improvement on the 2005 movie starring Keanu Reeves in terms of authenticity to the source, I wasn't very impressed by the glossy but empty pilot I saw over the summer...
It didn't help that Lucy Griffiths wasn't very good in her role; to the extent they decided to write her out, but couldn't afford to reshoot the entire pilot, so episode 2 will introduce actress Angélica Celaya as her replacement. But what did you make of Constantine? Did it entertain you? Scare you? Can you envisage the show lasting a long time? Did Matt Ryan show enough laconic appeal to keep you watching for him alone? Are you upset John Constantine's still not as gritty as the comic-books were, and doesn't even smoke cigarettes because he's on U.S network TV? Sound off in the comments below!
