Newsbuzz: DOCTOR WHO's Christmas clue, TRUE DETECTIVE casting, WONDER WOMAN finds a director, ITV adapting JEKYLL & HYDE

Friday 28 November 2014

The BBC have revealed that this year's DOCTOR WHO Christmas special is entitled "Last Christmas", fanning the flames of a summer rumour about Jenna Coleman leaving the series.

Confirmed as leads for season 2 of TRUE DETECTIVE are Colin Farrell (as detective Ray Velcoro), Vince Vaughn (as career criminal Frank Semyon), Taylor Kitsch (as veteran highway patrol officer Paul Woodrush), Rachel McAdams (as detective Ani Bezzerides), Kell Reilly (as Jordan Semyon, Frank's actress wife). The season will again be written by creator Nick Pizzolatto, and the first two episodes directed by Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious 3-6).

You know that WONDER WOMAN movie everyone's struggling to care about, despite Gal Gadot's best Xena cosplay efforts? Maybe news that Michelle MacLaren is directing it will help. If you're unaware, she has directed many episodes of hit TV shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. This is quite a career jump, but she's earned it. Interesting to see Hollywood paying attention to TV directors just lately, as Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) was also asked to helm Thor: The Dark World and has just wrapped Terminator: Genisys.

ITV are making a ten-part adaptation of JEKYLL & HYDE, written by Charlie Higson (The Fast Show, various Young Bond novels). There isn't much word on this yet—will it be a modern telling, or set in the past?—but it will have to be very good to eclipse the BBC's Jekyll from 2007.
