HBO's high-concept drama THE LEFTOVERS (set in a universe where 2% of the world's population inexplicably vanished) will apparently jettison much of its supporting cast, and the action is moving away from the fictional town of Mapleton, New York.
Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Margaret Qualley, Chris Zylka, Carrie Coon and Christopher Eccleston will all be back… who formed the core of season 1's cast. Liv Tyler and Ann Dowd are also expected to return, however... so I'm wondering what the changes are really going to be! Those are the main characters! Did anyone really expect the other, second-tier characters to be back?
What's confusing is the additional news The Leftovers will move away from Mapleton, because how can that possibly happen while retaining the above actors—who were residents of said town? Maybe the new season will begin in Mapleton, then involve Justin Theroux's on-screen family leaving town for a new future together… and, thus, farewell to most of the returning players?
I guess we'll find out next year, but what are your theories?
