ITV have recommissioned The Fixer for a second series, following decent ratings for its 6-week run earlier this year. And, let's face it, ITV are in desperate need of dramas that people under 50 care about -- so it's not much of a surprise.
The Fixer's juicy concept (of a government-sanctioned hitman) wasn't as exciting in practice, although I liked the performances and the plots kept me entertained. If they make some sweeping changes and improvements for next year, it could become something special.
The first thing I'd do is make it more a team effort, as Rose and Calum were rarely integral to Mercer's missions, and the antagonism and distrust between every character (while designed to be dramatic) began to irritate around episode 4. There can be an element of distrust and secrets, but I really wanted to see Lenny's crew clean up London's streets without all the aggravation and in-fighting.
Dysfunctional teams can only be stomached for so long, before you want to see them work as a professional, cohesive unit. It should be The A-Team meets Death Wish, with a dash of Charlie's Angels. Well, sort of.
