TRAILER PARK: 24: Exile

Thursday, 17 July 2008

The 24 TVM now has a full trailer, featuring lots of popular character from season 6 (Lennox and Daniels return!), our first look at new characters who will reappear in season 7 (like Jon Voight), and Robert Carlyle. Of course, the big news is that Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is overseas in a fictional African country, giving this TVM a very different feel to the usual city-based thrillers. It feels like a proper movie, although it doesn't feel like 24 exactly -- even with an obligatory torture scene. It could very easily be a small action film Kiefer filmed between seasons, cashing-in on his TV action-hero appeal.

Still, it's been so long since 24 last aired (summer '07) that I'd almost forgotten the show wasn't cancelled! I've also expunged the memories of that god-awful sixth season from my mind, so more high-octane Bauer action will be a treat. It certainly looks fresh and different, and they've clearly pumped money into this November treat for fans. Hopefully it'll be an effective teaser for when the seventh season starts next year -- and not an entertaining, but ultimately unnecessary TVM, like Battlestar Galactica's Razor. Oh, but that trailer's voice-over almost sinks the whole thing. Terrible. I'm glad this is actually a leaked early-version of the final product.
