Doctor Who: Michelle Ryan for Easter

Friday, 23 January 2009
Michelle Ryan will definitely be The Doctor's new companion... but only for the Easter special "Planet Of The Dead", alongside comedian Lee Evans. Ryan will play a character called Lady Christina De Souza, a "woman with a mysterious past who's going to have a huge impact on the Doctor." Read more details here.

I guess that puts an end to speculation Michelle will become the full-time companion in 2010, don't you agree? Would Steven Moffat let his new companion be introduced by departing showrunner Russell T. Davies, in a David Tennant story? I suppose there's a slim chance Michelle's character could somehow become the regular companion, but is it likely someone called "Lady Christina De Souza" will be The Doctor's cohort? It doesn't trip of the tongue quite like "Rose", "Martha" or "Donna" does it?

Incidentally, this week's Poll about who the next companion should be is still running (with Michelle only a few votes behind Carey Mulligan at time of writing!) Please continue to vote with your heart, regardless of how unlikely Michelle's appointment is now.
