The BBC have released a short trailer for the new series of Merlin (embedded above), which still has no confirmed airdate at time of writing -- although it's gotta be 19th or 26th September, surely. From the look of the things, it feels like more of the same, although there's definitely a darker feel. The first series wasn't anything special, but it did improve week by week and kept me entertained. I think its salvation was the fact the actors are very well cast (particularly Colin Morgan, Katie McGrath, Bradley James and Anthony Head), but hopefully the scripts wil give them something meatier to chew on this year. And it would be nice if Merlin's powers progress beyond feeble telekinesis and incantations. It doesn't have to be relentlessly dark and "gritty" to be considered good, just a lot more textured and imaginative.
