TRAILER PARK: Boardwalk Empire

Friday, 15 January 2010

Here's our first look at HBO's upcoming period drama, Boardwalk Empire, created by Terence Winter (The Sopranos) and executive-produced by Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Tim Van Patten and Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas), who also directs the pilot. The 12-part series is based on Nelson Johnson's novel "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times & Corruption Of Atlantic City" and revolves around the titular seaside town and its role during Prohibition in the 1920s.

Boardwalk Empire stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Johnson, the politician/gangster who runs Atlantic City, and Gretchen Mol (The Notorious Betty Page) as a showgirl. Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), Michael K. Williams (The Wire), Michael Pitt (Funny Games) and Kelly McDonald (Trainspotting) also star. The embedded promo doesn't reveal very much about the plot or characters, but it's clear that this series is going to look absolutely stunning, and I doubt Scorsese would lend his talent to something that's going to fall flat.

The series is scheduled to arrive on HBO later this year.
