Spartacus: Bravo & Sand

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Bravo have purchased the UK rights to Starz's drama Spartacus: Blood & Sand, for its summer lineup. The 13-part cable series (created by the team responsible for '90s fantasy hits Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess) follows the fortunes of a soldier sold into slavery who becomes a gladiator. Hmm, where have I heard that pitch before...

Amy Barham, Head of Acquisitions for Virgin Media TV:

"We knew [Spartacus] was the ultimate testosterone-fuelled series guaranteed to put Bravo on the map in its 25th anniversary year."
Okay, don't undersell it.

I haven't seen Spartacus yet, but I've heard it's nonsense with risqué scenes to make it feel superficially "adult". To wit, Lucy Lawless gets her boobs out. Yeah, um, I'll probably check out the first episode... y'know, just to give the show a fair chance. Has anyone out there been watching Spartacus? Is there a reason to tune in beyond seeing Xena in the buff?
