Video: THE SIMPSONS 'Treehouse of Terror XXIV' by Guillermo del Toro

Friday, 4 October 2013

I long ago stopped watching and caring about The Simpsons (a once masterful cartoon satire of America that's been creatively exsanguinated for about 15 years), but occasionally there's something to celebrate about this Fox animation. The annual "Treehouse of Terror" episodes are still a fixture of each season, and this year's Opening Titles and 'couch gag' were directed by horror maestro Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy). It's fantastic fun and crammed with all manner of in-jokes and references, from Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, to the classic Universal monsters, and del Toro's own scary movies. There's arguably too much going on, but I guess that just entices multiple viewings to spot all the jokes. I particularly enjoyed the cameo of a cult character from Futurama. Anyway, give this video a watch. It will brighten your day.
