Video: DOCTOR WHO - 'The Night of The Doctor' prequel

Thursday, 14 November 2013

The BBC have given us prequel 'webisodes' of Doctor Who for awhile now, but they're usually just light appetisers only hardcore fans lap up. The kind of thing that feels extraneous and largely inconsequential. "The Night of The Doctor" is a little different, so click above before you read more...

Are you back? Well, did that rock your universe?! A prequel 'minisode' set during the actual Time War, starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor (previously only seen in the 1996 TV Movie) Not only that, it also gave us valuable information about John Hurt's so-called 'War Doctor', who was evidently the result of a potion that triggered the dying Doctor's regeneration and gave rise to a Doctor designed to be a "warrior".

So that helps us understand a few things, although it's not really clear if Hurt's playing Doctor No9 (which we thought was Christopher Eccleston), or if this also means The Doctor's started a fresh cycle of regenerations (meaning Eccleston is actually Doctor No2A and Matt Smith's currently No4A). Anyway, I'll leave that for the Whovians to argue over. It was just a marvellous surprise to see many people's dearest wish come true -- a chance to see a 'Classic Doctor', and deservedly the one who was treated the worst.
