Page-hits are so yesterday. Today's all about the number of shares you inspire.
Anyone can create a click-bait headline, or get lucky with a search engine's ranking. There are all manner of tricks to get people to visit a blog; some of which it's only common sense to put into practice, without it becoming too sly and insincere...
But shares? Those are a different story, and are more highly prized these days. If a reader decides to share something with their own friends, family, or followers... you know you're doing something right. That's high praise without even commenting. It's the new word-of-mouth.
With that in mind, this is just a quick reminder to—if you think it's warranted, of course—remember to share DMD content you enjoy, or think people you know would like. In the process, you might be responsible for recruiting another new reader of DMD, who will thank you for the original share, so it's a win all round.
Obviously, only share what you truly believe deserves wider recognition and more eyeballs. I'm under no illusion that everything I upload to DMD is gold (far from it), but I like to think quality rarely dips beyond a plucky bronze.
I just hope readers aren't forgetting that using a social buttons to share an article or review is a fantastic way to show my blog some love, and help spread a good thing... especially if you're too busy to leave a comment, or just don't read blogs to engage in that particular way. Twitter? Facebook? Pinterest? LinkedIn? Google+? Reddit? However you do it, a share would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
