Sadly delayed from its usual spring return to summer, here's the first trailer for season 3 of NBC's stupendous HANNIBAL. It's a juicy tease that doesn't reveal too much, but neither does it skimp on actual footage from the new episodes. Interesting to see that Lady Murasaki (Tao Okamoto), Dr Lecter's "aunt", is in scenes with Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), no? I'm interested to see how the show explains Hannibal's (Mads Mikkelsen) ability to abscond overseas and somehow create a new life for himself without arousing suspicion...
This was one problem I had with the Hannibal novel, because it seemed crazy to me that such a prolific and dangerous serial killer wasn't immediately recognisable to everyone—and now we're deeper into the internet age, where it feels even less likely Hannibal could survive without drastically altering his appearance. And yet, he's apparently swanning around France and going to swanky parties? Okay then. I have faith the show will make it feel plausible, and I'm ready to suspend my disbelief for a drama that's given us victims turned into bee hives and a woman stitched into a horse's belly.
