It's the first trailer for Netflix's new sitcom THE UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT, created by Tina Fey (30 Rock). It concerns the eponymous woman (Ellie Kemper) who's rescued from a doomsday cult, after spending 15-years in an underground bunker. Adjusting to the modern world, Kimmy gets a job as a nanny for an Upper East Side socialite (Jane Krakowski), and laughs ensue.
First impressions? I think this looks like a lot of fun, and I'm a big fan of Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids), who just lights up the screen here. Maybe the jokes about Kimmy being several steps behind modern culture will get a little tiring, but there seems to be plenty of fizz and pop to the show. It's bright and funny, which belies a concept that sounds a little harrowing. I actually thought Kimmy Schmidt would be much darker, but it's instead a colourful surprise. Looking forward to this. Why on earth did NBC pass on it?
