Trailer: Netflix's DAREDEVIL

Wednesday 4 February 2015

It's our first look at Marvel's newest TV series, streaming exclusively on Netflix. And unlike Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Agent Carter, DAREDEVIL is a much bigger deal in the comic-book world...

It's strange Daredevil isn't being rebooted for the big-screen after the ill-fated 2003 movie everyone disliked (although the Director's Cut is less objectionable), but Marvel apparently believe The Man With No Fear is a hero who'll flourish on television in a serialised adventure. Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) is playing blind New York lawyer Matt Murdoch, who gains incredible sonar-like awareness that enables him to become an athletic vigilante. The showrunner behind this drama is Stephen S. DeKnight, who worked on Angel and Spartacus—so if Daredevil's a hybrid of those two things... oh boy!

There's a good mix of talent assembled here, although the trailer didn't knock me sideways and get me excited. It looks much darker than I imagined it would, and part of me feels like we already have a cool small-screen vigilante on The CW's Arrow. And where's his iconic red costume?

Netflix release Daredevil's entire first season around the world on 10 April 2015.
